BARCELONA AIRPORT METRO LINE

If you are thinking about how to get to Barcelona airport from the city, the subway may sound like the easiest and cheapest option. Despite this there are many things you should keep in mind. Do you know how the Barcelona metro works? If so, then it is as easy as knowing which line to take.

In this case, the line to get to the Barcelona airport is L9 Sud. As you can see below, it starts at the Zona Universitària stop and ends at terminal 1 of the airport, also passing through terminal 2. This is a good option if you find yourself near one of the stops on this line, although, if this is not the case, you can also arrive by transferring with the green (L3), the blue (L5), the red (L1) or the pink lines (L8). However, as we will see below, getting off at the airport stops requires a special ticket.

Estimated price: The price of a single ticket is €4.60. The T-10 card is not valid for this route, but others such as the T-Dia, the T-Mes, the T-Jove or the T-50/30 among other integrated tickets and passes are valid.

Estimated time: From one end of the line (Zona Universitària) to the end of the line it can take approximately 40 minutes.

Timetable: From 05:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. from Sunday to Thursday and holidays during the week, Friday and holiday eves from 05:00 a.m. to 02:00 a.m. Saturdays all day.

TRAIN TO BARCELONA AIRPORT

If you are near one of the main train stations in Barcelona or have to make a connection to other parts of the country, relying on the train service can also be a good option. Do you know how to do it?

Many people wonder how to go from Sants to Barcelona airport, and it is very easy. With your ticket you must enter the departures area and take the R2 Nord Rodalies Line, which runs from Maçanet-Massanes to the airport’s terminal 2.

This same train stops at the following stations where you can easily reach the airport from Barcelona: Maçanet-Massanes, Granollers Center, Sant Andreu-Arenal, Barcelona El Clot-Aragó, Passeig de Gràcia, Barcelona-Sants, Bellvitge, El Prat de Llobregat and Aeroport (T2). However, it is expected that in the near future the line will reach T1.

If you leave Estació de França, you must get on the R2 Sud and change to the R2 Nord line in Passeig de Gràcia or Sants.

Estimated price: Free with the Barcelona Card. €4.20 for a single ticket. You can also use ALL integrated tickets and AMB tickets.

Estimated time: A train passes every 30 minutes. From end to end it takes 1 h and 37 minutes. Nevertheless, if you catch it at Sants station you only have approximately 20 minutes.

Timetables: From 05:22 a.m. to 11:01 p.m. from Barcelona to the airport and from 05:40 a.m. to 11:38 p.m. from the airport to Barcelona.

BUS TIMETABLES TO BARCELONA AIRPORT

Another option to get from Barcelona to the airport or vice versa is the bus. In this case, you have different options depending on your destination. There are metropolitan buses, which reach the entire area of Barcelona, intercity buses, which reach different towns and cities of Catalonia (El Prat de Llobregat, Castelldefels, and cities like Lleida or Girona), and international buses that will take you to other countries like Andorra or France. Although there are many options, we will only focus on the round trips of the Catalan capital.

  • Aerobus: On the one hand, if you want to get from Barcelona airport directly to the city center, you can take the Aerobus, which will take you directly to Plaça de Catalunya from both terminal 1 (With line A1) and 2 (With the line A2). On the way, that is, from Barcelona to El Prat airport, both also have stops on Carrer de Sepúlveda with Carrer d’Urgell and Plaça d’Espanya, at the confluence of Carrer de la Creu Coberta. On the reverse route, you have stops in Plaça d’Espanya with Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, Gran Via with Carrer d’Urgell, Plaça de l’Universitat and, finally, in Plaça de Catalunya.

Estimated price: €5.90 single trip and €10.20 for the round trip.

Estimated time: Approximately 35 minutes from end to end.

Timetable: From Barcelona to the airport the buses run from 05:00 a.m. to 00:30 a.m., with a frequency of between 10 and 15 minutes. From the airport to Barcelona they run from 05:35h a.m. to 01:35 a.m.

  • Line 46: On the other hand, you have a cheaper option, which is to use the bus line that goes from the airport to Barcelona and vice versa. The difference is that it has less frequency and more stops until it reaches its final stop, Plaça d’Espanya. The main stops of this route, in addition to the terminals, are Av. Gran Vía-Cotxeres, Av. Gran Via- Oncològic Hospital, Av. Gran Via-Ctra. Antiga d’El Prat, Plaça d’Europa, La Campana and Paral·lel-Llançà.

Estimated price: € 2.20 single ticket. You can also use any of the integrated tickets and passes.

Estimated time: Approximately 40 minutes. The bus leaves every 15-20 minutes on average.

HOW TO GET TO BARCELONA AIRPORT AT NIGHT

One of the most frequent doubts for those passengers who travel at night, especially on flights that depart at 06:00 in the morning or flights that have been delayed, is knowing how to get to the airport at night and vice versa. In this case, you can count on the N17, which leaves Plaça de Catalunya, at the height of Ronda de l’Universitat and passes through different stops of the Gran Via (Casanova, Villarroel, Calàbria, Vilamarí), Plaça d’Espanya, Gran Via-Farell, La Campana, Ildefons Cerdà, Ciutat de la Justícia, Plaça d’Europa, Mare de Déu de Bellvitge, Hospital de Bellvitge or different stops in El Prat de Llobregat, among others, before arriving at the airport’s terminal 1. The N16 also does the same route but ending at terminal 2. If you want a night bus that stops at both terminals, you must decide on the N18, with the same route mentioned above.

Estimated price: €2.20 or integrated tickets and passes.

Estimated time: between 50 and 60 minutes.

Timetable: N16 from 11:30 p.m. to 05:10 a.m. N17 from 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. N18 from 00:05 a.m. to 04:45 a.m. All buses have a frequency of 20 minutes.

Remember that you can also take a taxi from any point, an option that should cost between €30 and €40 depending on the collection point.

HOW TO GET TO BARCELONA AIRPORT BY CAR

Remember that you always have the option of arriving from Barcelona to the airport in your private or rental car. If you are in the lower part of the Diagonal, the easiest way is to go to Plaça Espanya and Avinguda de la Gran Via or C-31 and turn off to exit 192 to join the B-22.

On the other hand, if you are above the Diagonal, you must take the Ronda de Dalt, turning off at exit 54, at the height of Sant Boi de Llobregat. Follow the B-22 road to reach the terminals.

HOW TO GET FROM BARCELONA AIRPORT TO THE LUGARIS APARTMENTS

If, on the contrary, you want to arrive by public transport, there are different options for each of our holiday apartments:

– Lugaris Beach: You can use the train and get off at Passeig de Gràcia, where you can change on the yellow metro line (L4) towards La Pau. Get off at Llacuna, Lugaris Beach is a short walk away. Another option is to take the Aerobus, which will leave you at Plaça de Catalunya and get on the H16 bus up to to the Jonquera-Taulat stop.

– Lugaris Rambla: If you want to take the train, follow the same instructions as in the previous case). With the Aerobus, once you reach Plaça de Catalunya take the H16 and get off at the Passeig Clavell-Rambla del Poblenou stop.

FAQ

– Can you get to the airport with a T-10 card? It is only valid for the for L46 bus and night lines, as well as the RENFE train trip.

– Does my transport choice depend on which terminal should I go to? Most of the public transport arrives at both terminals, although line 46 passes through terminal 2 before line 1. Night lines N16 and N17 stop only at terminal 2 and terminal 1 respectively.

On the other hand, to date, there is no train stop at terminal 1, although its construction is planned.

– How much does a taxi from Barcelona to the airport cost? And from the airport to the center of Barcelona?

This will depend on your destination, but the price can be around € 40, although it may be lower if you go to the vicinity of Plaça d’Espanya.

If you want to leave your car for more than one day, the price for every 24 hours is €20.95. If you plan to leave your car for more than 4 days, the fifth day and the following will cost €16 / day.

– How to go from terminal 1 to 2 or vice versa

If you have got to the wrong terminal or need a transfer from one terminal to another, do not worry. The airport has shuttle buses that will take you from one place to another. It is running all day and has a frequency of between 5 and 7 minutes during the day and 10-15 minutes between 00:00 a.m. and 05:00 a.m.
